‘Lowlights’ darkens white in segments

If you are a Caucasian or African-American female and regularly chemically relax or dye your hair, you need to read about new research from Rutgers School of Public Health. It shows an increased risk of breast cancer in women who regularly chemically treat their hair. This large study (4284 women) showed association (for both black women who used dye and caucasian women who used relaxers) with cancer (51% and 74%, respectively). Not surprisingly, caucasian women had double the chance of cancer if they both chemically relaxed their hair.

Past studies have identified an association for long term users of dark dyes with a 4-fold risk of fatal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and fatal multiple myeloma. Other studies found an association of dark dyes with bladder cancer risk.
