I want you to put aside the the visual problems resulting from up-close small screening viewing, also forget the hearing problems that arise from the decibels hitting your tympanic membrane and realize your brain chemicals can be altered!

Here is measured numbers:

82% of Americans own or can use a smartphone, 92% are likely to use it while shopping, 78% while eating at home, and 44% while crossing the street.  Pretty impressive numbers!

The Pew Research Center conducted a survey, which noted 73% of teens have smartphone, and 92% of them say that they go online every single day.

The overuse of the internet or smartphones can cause chemical imbalances (GABA and Glx ) measurable on MRS (variation of MRI where chemicals tagged can be followed) according to presentation at Radiological Society of North America. The study included controls (no users) and was matched to gender and age of those who were ‘addicted’.

Background:

GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid)  is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that interacts with neural synapses, slowing down signaling between brain cells. GABA balances out the effect of Glx (glutamate-glutamine),  , which is an excitatory neurotransmitter that speeds up electric signaling in the brain.  FYI: this imbalances in GABA and Glx levels has been found to have a role in mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety

Know that addiction to internet/smartphones is real and alters your brains chemicals!
